Entry to this qualification is limited to those who hold:
Learners are required to meet the following minimum requirements: All learners with English as a second language (ESL) must also demonstrate ONE of the following to meet minimum English Proficiency requirements: 1. IELTS 5.5 or other English scores accepted by Department of Home Affairs (DHA) such as TOEFL ‘PBT’ 527, TOEFL ‘iBT’ 46; PTE Academic 42; Cambridge English Advance 47; OET ‘Pass’, 2. Request to sit for Qii’s Internal English Test and achieve the required scores, 3. New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) Level 3- Applied. Alternatively, learners can request to sit for Qii’s Internal Language, Literacy and Numeracy test and achieve the following results. This also applies to all domestic students:
*Any students who do not immediately meet the exact entry requirements by up to 1.0 of mark in any individual area of the test may be given additional exercises and LLN assessment material to build their skill knowledge to fill the entry requirements gap before commencing the course. |

Delivery Structure and Modes of Study |
The full-time delivery involves 20 scheduled course contact hours per week. To reach the 20 hours delivery requirement, each Unit of Study will have 2 days per week (14 hours) face-to-face classroom training and tutorial, and 6 hours of scheduled Course Related Information Session (CRIS). In some cases, students may apply to complete up to one third of their course via distance learning. All distance learning, or ‘self-study’ Units will be timetabled to be completed alongside another face-to-face Unit and will be supported by scheduled tutorials for additional assistance should it be required. |

Vocational placement | To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 280 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency. Placement may be commenced during the delivery of the course; however, practical assessment for each Unit requiring placement will be conducted once the learning has been completed and theory assessments are deemed Satisfactory.
If the student is not already working in a position relating to this area of study, Qii will be able to assist in finding the placement. The Institute will first try to place the student with one of the signed placement partners if a suitable position is available, or alternatively we can provide additional guides and information packs to assist the student in securing their own placement. A Trainer from the institute will visit and assess all potential placement hosts and conduct a quality assurance assessment and complete a facilities checklist before signing an agreement. All learners must apply for Blue card prior to commencing their vocational placement. |

Course Description
This program aims to prepare students to develop knowledge and skills to work within the early childhood education settings. It is expected they use organisation policies, procedures and individual children’s profiles to plan activities and provide care to children. Depending on the setting, educators may work under direct supervision or autonomously.

Pathway
Upon successful completion of this program, clients may wish to take a further qualification in early childhood education in tertiary education sector. Students may be eligible to gain direct entry to a number of undergraduate courses such as Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education).
